At this customers home the carpeting on her steps was installed two years ago and has never been cleaned. Steps require more upkeep then the overall room carpeting because; all the foot traffic and wear is consolidated into a two foot wide area. Unlike wall to wall carpeting, stairs must be maintained more diligently because of this traffic pattern. The picture on the left is the before and the one on the right is the after. When we complete all of our carpet dry cleaning jobs one of the steps that we do is to treat the carpeting with Stain-Guard carpet protector. On steps we apply it more heavily because of the abuse that they will take.

Notice on the picture on the right how much fuller the carpet appears! We just treated these steps with Stain-Guard and the product was raked deep into the carpet pile. One of the steps that we do with our carpet dry cleaning process is that we rake the fiber (unless Berber or commercial carpet). Raking the carpet is from the old days and not many companies do this anymore. It is a manual and physical task but we fell that its a very important step to take.
